Like every year popular artists release Christmas albums. In Finland it's usually 3-5 of the top names annually and 2014 is no exception.
This year we have Teräsbetoni's Jarkko Ahola releasing already his second Christmas album titled Suojelusenkeli - Joulun klassikot 2. This time it includes also songs that are not exactly Christmasy, like Finlandia by Sibelius, Cavatina and Andrea Bocelli's Sanremo song Con te partirò.
Jippu, who took part in Euroviisut 2008 with Kanna minut makes a comeback to recording world after motherhood with Rakkauden joulu. It is more classic Christmas album with songs like O holy night, Heinillä härkien kaukalon and Sydämeeni joulun teen.
Suvi Teräsniska - who would be great for Eurovision one day - is saying goodbye to music business for awhile with this Christmas album Joulun henki. She got married and is expecting a baby shortly so she will have a well deserved break from a very succesful career. It includes also a cover of Carola's Taivas sylissäni. Joululaulu, Tule joulu kultainen and Konsta Jylhän joululaulu are more traditional Finnish songs.
Lauri Tähkä would have been perfect for Eurovision with his Elonkerjuu back the day, but he's gone solo now and takes on Christmas songs, too. Jouluni laulut includes mostly classics but also new songs like Joulu tuo luokseni rakkaat. Time will tell if it will become a new classic. Other songs include Hanget korkeat nietokset, En etsi valtaa loistoa and Me käymme joulun viettohon.
In the album charts Suvi is highest at the moment at #7 on the way up while Lauri already drops at #23 (was #10 last week). Jarkko climbs to #13 after debuting at 17 last week while Jippu is yet to enter the Top-40. Very well is doing a combilation album Raskasta joulua 2 as well, Christmas songs in metal versions sung by various heavyrock singers including Elize Ryd singing the beforementioned Carola song and she's taking part in next year's Melodifestivalen.....
