Spain: What's done it's done!

Daniel Motiño Camúñez reports:

What's done it's done and I hope it will never done again; the last Eurovision show in Spain was even more chaotic and  pathetic than the previous ones, including discussions, change of rules, sound issues, cheap decorations and dull dancing. At the end, the only song with chances to end up in the top-20 of Eurovision, won the competition Que me quiten lo bailao which could be translated in English as What's done it's done composed by Rafael Artesero (Andorra 2005, 2006) will represent Spain in Düsseldorf.

TVE announced that the nine songs will be sung entirely on stage, and not only a snippet as it was thought and previously published on channel’s site. Expectations where low for those than watched the pre-view videos on internet, only one of the songs was catchy, while the rest were unbearable. Was this the best of 1200 songs? Somehow this would be the worst Spanish National Final ever, even worst than Eurocanción 2000.

Only one song from each performer was to be in the big-3 final. The jury decided which songs make it till the end but instead discussing it they will voted, each jury member will giving from 1 to 3 points to each song. In case of draw the song with more numbers of 3s will be the winner. Soledad Jimenez, was substituting Merche. Soledad is one of the most charismatic Spanish voices. She has been with the group Presuntos Implicados for 20 years and started her solo career, with not that much success, 4 years ago, so at least we got someone fit on music tonight.

Melissa opens the show with the worst song of the night, EOS. When I watched the video on the internet I just wanted to die - María López wanted to sing this? EOS talks about the Titanic Greek goddess and yeah this is going to be sinking. I am wordless to describe this, it tries to be cool but the arrangement is so cheap and bad. Melissa was on a podium, like if she is not tall enough, covered by a piece of tope - probably the same that they use to hide Soraya on stage two years ago. She does not get any note right at all, and then we have the dancers, please kill them all!

Auryn started the night with Evangeline which could have been a 1970's Eurovision track. The boys limitations are clearly there, so the song is limited. They all sit down on stage and try to complement themselves, but there is no way you could bother this song for more than 45 seconds.

Lucía Perez first choice is Que me quiten lo bailao. First we got a view of the sexy guitarist so at least this starts good, The song’s rhythm is not bad at all, sounds really Spanish; or is it Portuguese? Yeah it is definitely Portuguese, reminds of Flor de Lis in 2009. Well Lucía is from Galicia which is practically the same. Her pink short dress choice does not match the number and she does not seem comfortable moving along with the dancers, but who would? They need to poison them now. The melody is really catchy and if this song does not win, I do not know which one will.

Melissa is back on stage with a tight long red dress, her size, her hair and her eyes are the highlights of the performance. Sueños Rotos seems to be a ballad similar to Sense Tú and even worst than it. Melissa is pretty nervous and her vocals are failing again.

Auryn perform next Rafael Del Alba's song, The sun will shine. Leaving apart all my respect to Rafael, who I met in person London (and who is a great friend of this blog. Ed.note), this song is not appropriate for the band, neither for the contest. The guys have improved their look but not the performance. They try to perform a cheap choreography; they should have stayed sit.

Lucia's Abrázame is one of the big favourites for the Spanish fans, but not for me, the song reminds La Oreja de Van Gogh's ballads and Lucía performs secure. There is again a kind of choreography. She wears again a really short cupper dress, her hair is fantastic. I am not sure if she has got the period tonight but her belly can be easily appreciated. In the middle of the performance, Lucia seems worries and nervous. Maybe she also feels the belly? This song could fit maybe Vicky Leandros, but not Lucía specially in 2011! Although no one realised at home, in the middle of the performance the song went off, including microphone so Lucía had to keep on singing without hearing nothing at all - unfortunately she cought up in time when the song came back.

Diamonds is the last performance of Melissa. Finally everybody is on leather on stage and this would be catalogued as the uptempo song from Melissa, but the full result is so cheap. Melissa is wearing high heels so she would be around 2 meters now? I am wondering if we could not pick any of Lena's leftover songs for tonight....

Volver is the only song which could be described as a such for Auryn, although is only a bad sample of Moving On, even though those shoes are too big for Auryn,. The group has changed their look to a Autumn-Winter collection, which I guess goes better with this dramatic song. Only Blas Cantó performs decently.

Lucía Perez closes the night with C'est la vie it's all right, an up-tempo song, with catchy lyrics is not that bad if your listen to it twice, the dancers are there again making the more than classical chair playing. The show is over.

Blue performs as interval act. They sang live Breath Easy, so maybe Spain realises now that Auryn is not a good choice at all? (I thought the same btw. Ed.note) They couldn’t say that much about their Eurovision song but it will be a classic Blue hit similar to One Love...doesn't that sound cool! (It does indeed! Ed.note)

The jury starts to provide their votes. They start with Melissa and EOS got 4 times 3; is this for real? Also Melissa is really happy as her favourite one was also EOS! Well, the three songs suck so who cares.

Auryn songs are the next ones to be votes. Volver wins easily getting awarded with 3 points from any single jury. Auryn also loved the election. Rafael del Alba's song got last. This is totally unfair since was much better than Evangeline. (Amen. Ed.note)

Lucía Perez decision was the polemic one. After the votes Abrázame and Que me quiten lo bailao ended up with 12 points, but Que me quiten was awarded with 3 maximum votes and also one bottom from our "Eurovision expert" Reyes del Amor, who totally did it on purpose to support Abrázame. Although the rules were clearly stated Anne Igartiburu, the show's conductor, ask the jury to re-think the result as Lucía wants to sing Abrázame. Is this serious? Are they changing the rules? Lucía is not happy with the decision, so Anne is trying to manipulate them, specially Boris who was last to vote. The jury seats and discuss again but finally they stay stick to their decision.

Sorry Reyes!!!!! Que me quiten lo bailao is on the final. Why we always have to make a Circus of the Spanish Eurovision shows? Were not the rules clearly stated? Could you imagine this happening in Melodifestivalen or Sanremo?  Well in Sanremo (oh yeah! Remember last year? Ed.note)  maybe, but the image TVE is providing about their respect to the contest is below zero.

Next round of performances. Nothing new to add more of the same, Melissa performed EOS even worse than before, Auryn did not impress me at all, only the solo from Blas Cantó was worth listening. Lucía Perez and Que me quiten sounds even more Portuguese, even a bit Para llenarme de tí, this is definitely the best option, of course without these dancers. They look like monkeys to me, this was really fashionable in Spain since Melody started to sing El baile de gorille,
the Gorilla song. I am starting to sing this song, actually the only I can remember after the night, so let's cross our fingers for a decent entry in Düsseldorf.

After the performances, Anne Igartiburu asked the contestants why people should vote for them; where are we in MIss Universe? Lucía takes the chance to remind the viewers that there is a high number of Galician all over Europe. Actually she is right, they are like a mafia but this is not all, she also said - I respect the decision of the jury, but at the end of the day the ones that will be on stage defending Spain will be us, so we need to have our say- auuughhh! That is a big slap on the face.

And here are the results, first the split of the votes 68%, 20% and 12% wow this is massive....it will be Auryn? Would  the Abrázame Issue helped or affected Lucía? There is no way EOS could win by a landslide. The winner is… Lucía!!!! We are jumping on my living room, and open a bottle of Cava! Lucía is crying and so happy She is the first Galician female ever representing Spain in Eurovision. This is the best Spanish entry since 2004, we do not have to end up in the bottom 10, so a happy end after all!

ESC 2016 WISH LIST: MARGARET FOR POLAND

Małgorzata Jamroży aka Margaret has also been tipped for Eurovision and apparently she did turn it down but she'd be perfect. She's got a look and persona you can't unnotice nor forget, she's got hit songs, she has been voted or nominated for everything from Trendy artist to the Hope of the Year, Fashion Icon and Glamour Woman of the year besides the usual best video, song, album, debut..... Oh she's also a fashion designer! She's very clever with social medias and would surely use it to her advantage if selected for Stockholm 2016. Her debut album is titled Add the blonde , do we need to say more? Except it includes mostly Swedish written pop tunes like Tell me how are ya , Wasted , Start a fire and Heartbeat . And of course her debut single and internationally noticed Thank you very much that you can enjoy below with all its anti-textil feel. I think she's Eurovision perfection, she's cheeky and fun, can we have her?

SONGS OF THE YEAR 2015: #5 KRISTA SIEGFRIDS - ON & OFF

Krista Siegfrids is delivering nice pop tunes one after another and this one is particularly catchy and soon you will be singing along..... Hopefully her Melodifestivalen entry will be equally good!

Regina Lund - naked and censored

Regina Lund's new video Jag är osynlig was censored by Youtube only minutes after it had been uploaded. In the video she was playing a female Jesus who gets crusified in the end. "I was shocked!" she says. "There's nothing more naked in it as in every church! It's ok to have naked man hanging on the wall but my nakedness is too much on internet? ". Oh well, no comment. She's prepairing a new album Dare Regina Lund and we of course remember her from her Melodifestivalen 2007 adventure with Rainbow star .

ESC 2016 BELARUS: NAKED WITH WOLVES?

Today's funniest Eurovision related story comes from Belarus. Some sources claim Ivan wants to perform on stage naked and with live wolf or wolves. It surely would be a first on Eurovision stage! We have seen some forgotten underwear over the years, and some cardbox animals though..... Is it time to take things a bit further?  No, according the rules live animals are not allowed, and Eurovision being a family show nudity won't do either. (It seems to be ok to be half naked if you are a dancer though..... )

CAROLA'S BOOBS STEAL THE SHOW, SVT APOLOGIES

Update! Another thing got Swedes talking last night: Carola's boobs when she was giving away an award. This is not the first time her boombs cause headlines; her misfortunate adventures in the 80's in Japan wer explained with her boobs being too big for Japanese market. Ok.... Or was it the song ? Anyways, Carola apologies and says she thinks the dress is stylish and elegant (even her friends said so) and she's a mature woman in her 40s, not a 16-year-old girl and looks like one. The Swedish Oscars, Guldbagge awards were given out last night. Carola was there as a guest star to sing Barbra Streisand's The way we were when honoring the movie stars who passed away during 2012. However, the cameras were too much on Carola, not on the stars showed in photos in the background and that upset many viewers as that part of the show was to celebrate them, not Carola. Oh well...  The producer of the show tells in Aftonbladet the part of the show was made the sam

TIM SCHOU AND HIS NAKED GRAVITY

Tim Schou has a pretty good solo career going since he left his friends in London. He's travelling the world and relesing songs and videos. The latest one is a great track and comes with a steamy video that kinda takes away from the song really. But who's complaining. If you got it, flaunt it. Enjoy the video below. This post coming after the other Dane, Rasmus Seebach as wishlist for Eurovision. To think about it, Tim would do nicely, too. Maybe he should give it another go?

JEDWARD GETS NAKED FOR THE FANS

Well, almost. The boys celebrated their 650.000th follower on Twitter by being photographed fresh from shower as promised. It's not the first time they drop their clothes as you see here . Meanwhile their second album is nearly here and the title track Young love is hitting the charts....

GREECE: HELENA PAPARIZOU HITS AGAIN WITH HAIDE

Eurovision song contest 2005 winner Helena Paparizou has been enjoying Top-5 hits every year since 2003 with the exception of 2010 and 2014, this latest one being already her 27th! And Haide is charting also in Bulgaria and Finland, of all places. The catchiness of her hits has changed less over the years than her face....  Here's the English version , below the Greek version.

ITALY: ALICE 70 - PER ELISA

Alice's second Sanremo. No longer Alice Visconti, nor Carla Bissi but simply Alice. A song written by Alice herself with Franco Battiato and Giusto Pio. An usual song lacking a proper refrain, performed in an aggressive way by fierce looking Alice with wild hair. It was a real breakthrough. If the trio's first offering the year before for Italian hit waves was a hit this became a mega hit and international success that made her known not only in Italy but abroad as well. Such a shame Italy didn't participate in Eurovision that year (but her time would come) but then again, most likely they wouldn't have had sent Sanremo winner anyways. Number one hit in Italy, Top-5 in Austria and Switzerland, Top-20 in Germany.  The song featured in her 4th album simply titled Alice, that was published abroad as Per Elisa with different styling. A new version of the song is included in Personal Jukebox album. Per Elisa Vuoi vedere che perderai anche me Per Elisa Non sai più distinguere

ITALY: ALICE 70 - NATA IERI

Alice - Nata ieri In 2012 Alice released her first studio album with new original songs in 14(fourteen!!!) years, Samsara . Among them a song Franco Battiato had written especially for her (Eri con me), a first since 1982!, a couple from Tiziano Ferro including this Nata ieri. The album included also three covers from Lucio Dalla, Giuni Russo and Califfi. Her fans had been waiting for this album and it entered the Italian charts straight at number 10.  Se la vita è migliorata dopo ogni ferita, è grazie a te. Tra le grigie ceneri dei giorni neri, lì sono nata ieri. If life has improved after every wound, it is thanks to you. Among the gray ashes of the dark days, there I was born yesterday.
