Well, now this is different year and song for sure. Piccola Orchestra Avion Travel won Sanremo with Sentimento. A very movie soundtrack kind of thing but how would have it done in Eurovision? (If they ever wanted to go there in first place?) The runner up Irene Grandi with La tua ragazza sempre would have been more suitable I guess. Veteran Gianni Morandi was third with Innamorato, co-written by Eros Ramazzotti. Matia Bazar with new singer Silvia Mezzanotte came 8th with Brivido caldo just before Alice who returned to Sanremo after her 1981 win with Il giorno dell'indipendenza. I strongly disagree with the results of that year as the other good songs ended up in the bottom of the results: 11th Subsonica Tutti i miei sbagli, 12th Ivana Spagna Con il tuo nome, 13th Mietta Fare l'amore. Also Marco Masini was left 15th with Raccontami di te. He sung backing vocals in Gente di mare in ESC 1987 for Umberto Tozzi whose Un'altra vita was left last and 16th....
Actually relistening the songs and looking at the result list I feel very confused and it all looks a bit too weird and wrong. That year they had an experts jury who may have had a bit too much weight against the televotes. Gerardina Trovato with Gechi e vampiri won the televote followed by Irene Grandi, Matia Bazar and Gianni Morandi, the big pre-contest favourite. Mietta was 5th and Spagna 6th. But the jury put Avion Travel in the first place, Irene 2nd, Gianni 6th, Gerardina 10th, Matia Bazar 11th, Spagna 12th and Mietta 13th.... The mess up was ready. (Alice came only 9th by both.) How come Irene was left second if she was 2nd in both televotes and jury while Avion Travel was 11th and 1st? Nothing against them, just wonder...
