"... if a super computer were to create the ultimate Israeli pop singer, the result would most likely be identical to Harel Skaat. Skaat has it all. First of all, he is an incredible singer, with outstanding vocal abilities."
So it says in Harel's press kit. Indeed, no one can deny Harel's vocal skills. He has also good looks, likable personality and thousends of loyal fans to add to the packege Israel is sending to Oslo 2010 with a very strong song. My guess is no matter happens it will have no effect on his career, negatively that is. Maybe he doesn't have to worry about that either: Israeli is very high on all betting lists and some are putting him and his song to the same level as Patricia Kaas was last year. I agree.
Skaat's talent was noted early on and at the age of 6 he won his firts talent contest, that opened him doors to TV shows and to be on stage and in studio with well-known artists. At 15 he was the lead singer in his hometown Kfar Sava's band as well as his high school band. Natually he sung his way through the military service, too, and later shined in the Academy of performing arts. The big break through came in 2004 Israeli Idols where he won every week until the grand final where he was left second - resulting a scandal and talk about fraud in the voting system.
But Skaat went on to become a superstar. He released his platinum selling self titled debut album in 2006. The first single And you topped the charts for 7 weeks and was later named the Song of the Year by the radio stations. He was also declared Singer of the year and Man of the year in various media. His video If he goes won the award for the best video. Children's channel chose him the Singer of the year three years in a row.
Skaat released his second album in 2009 and it has sold gold so far. Skaat was voted the runner up in the Singer of the decade poll, and And you 4th in the Song of the decade out of 500 songs.
In 2010 after rumours basicly every year that Skaat would go to Eurovision it is finally happening. He sung four songs in the national final Kdam and Words was chosen over Away, Towards you and Closer. His other videos include Even though it's burning, Come today and His light will shine on me.
